Revise selected passages
Sometimes a draft needs a clearer introduction while a quotation, product name or agreed phrase must stay exactly as written. Our latest update adds two main features to help: wording locks and selective rewrites.
Locks: keep important wording exactly as it is
Select wording and choose Lock this occurrence to preserve that particular occurrence. You can also open Locks and add a term or phrase to lock every exact, case-sensitive match. Names, quotations, figures, dates, links and email addresses can all be kept unchanged through Rewrite, Recraft and follow-up edits.
Locks also work inside a rewrite selection. You can select a paragraph for revision, then lock a quotation within it. Requill can revise the selected wording around the quotation while keeping the quotation unchanged.
Rewrite one passage, or several pieces in the same run
Open Lock & rewrite text, select a passage and choose Rewrite only selection. To revise several parts of a draft, select another piece and choose Add another selection. All the pieces are included in the next Rewrite or Recraft; overlapping selections are merged.
The wording outside your selections stays unchanged. Afterward, Selected edits shows before-and-after excerpts alongside the complete result or file download, so you can review each change in context.
Both features work with pasted text and, with Pro, Word and PDF files containing selectable text. Word output supports tracked changes.
See the credit cost before your next edit
Follow-up buttons now show how many credits the next run will use. For selected file edits, the amount updates as you add or remove selections.
- Every initial Rewrite or Recraft, whether text or file, costs 1 credit.
- Text follow-ups and whole-file follow-ups cost 1 credit per run.
- File follow-ups limited to selected text cost 0.1 credits per started 400 selected characters, combined across all selections, with a maximum of 1 credit per run.
Further improvements that make editing easier
- Move through long drafts more easily. The continuous text view loads more content as you scroll, with smoother scrolling as new passages appear. A passage list on the left lets you jump straight to a section.
- Make more room for your work. Expand the workspace to hide the right sidebar and give the editing controls and text more space.
- Review details with context. Possible changes, additions or omissions in numbers, dates, links and email addresses now include a short passage excerpt. These comparisons help you review an edit; they do not verify facts.
- Remove a lock or selection with one click. Each has a bin icon. The text tools start collapsed, with a visible description of the actions inside.
- Reach the file action more easily. A second Rewrite file button below the conversation gives you another convenient place to start the same rewrite.
